Dollar Flipper Blog Update 22 Comments

This is tough for me, but I’m going to take a break for a few months on here.

I’m not managing all life stresses well right now. We have a busy summer, work is pretty busy too, and the girls just grow up so fast. I don’t want to spend my time on the computer when I can be doing other things around my house and with the girls.

I don’t even own a boat.

Here’s what I promise to keep doing:

  • Listing – I’m going to do more of it! Instead of trying to write two times per week here (that’s about 4 mornings worth of work minimum), I’m going to focus on listing. I need some action, and I feel like writing on the blog gives me the satisfaction of working on eBay, but doesn’t impact my death piles. I need to change that.
  • Monthly Update – even though I’m going to be focusing on non-blog things, I’ll keep updating my numbers. That post doesn’t take a long time, and I think keeping track of progress is important.
  • Working out – I’m feeling better. I’m lifting again and playing volleyball. I feel much more gloomy when I’m not active.
  • E-Mails – I’m going to keep responding to e-mails from the site. Feel free to e-mail me with a question. Chris AT FlippingADollar DOT Com.

Who knows, maybe I’ll feel refreshed after a big eBay push. It’s funny because I have TONS of draft posts with really good topics. Content definitely isn’t the issue here. It all comes down to time. Writing a decent blog post takes a lot of time and focus, but it doesn’t move that inventory through my eBay process! Focusing on listing will help me get into a better space. I’ll revisit after a few months to see if I want to keep this up.

  2. Family and health are most important! And you’re right….the kids will be all grown up before you know it. My granny used to say that to me, but when you’re in the midst of everything it is hard to fathom. And now my kids are 41 and 42 …… Take the time now to enjoy time with your wife and little ones. eBay and blogs will always be here.

  3. Love your blogs, but making sure your family has their time is much more important for you and them. You will never regret a minute that you spend with them. Good for you for making the right call!

Thanks Mary Beth, it’s appreciated. I definitely felt like I was spreading myself too thin.

  4. Good choice.
    Put yourself first.
If it’s not fun don’t do it.

Thanks Bill. That seems to be the consensus. Glad everyone is backing me up on this. 🙂

  5. Enjoy your time with your family and squeeze in some time for a death pile or two! I love your blog posts and always look forward to reading them. I will be here when you return as well.
    Enjoy & take care!

  6. It is really tough to take breaks sometimes. I am a over-worker and I too should take a break every now and then. Enjoy it! I haven’t responded to your email you sent me a while back, but I plan too soon!

Yeah, I feel like I’m slacking since I’m not posting. It’s refreshing though. Finally moving some stuff that’s been sitting on my shelf (just needed to be photographed and stored).

  7. I know exactly how you feel! This is exactly why I’ve dropped back to only posting every couple of weeks. Take all the time off you need. Life is for living!

It’s crazy when I think about how much time I was spending writing. If I didn’t have a full time job, I could justify it.

  8. You have a great blog and it will still be a great blog… your readers will still be here 🙂
I recently made one of those life decisions too…realized my son is 14 and about to start high school and working full time will never give me the time I want with him. It’s been 5 months since we have lost my full time salary, and yes, the money would be nice but I don’t regret it at all! Enjoy your summer with your girls!

Thank you. 🙂 I’ll be back at some point, just need to get through a hectic part of life.

  9. Good for you Chris. Do what works for you, not what others expect of you. I think that’s why I will never keep a regular post schedule on my blog. I write when I feel like it. LOL

Thanks Margaret! Yeah, it’s tough when you see growth potential when you post regularly, but it definitely wasn’t working right now.

  10. Hey man only you know what’s best for your life. Good luck and I know you will feel less stressed now. IF you find an old sega genesis on ebay with 33 games, ill buy it. Good luck.

It’s definitely been a big change. I miss the discussions and feedback, but the free time has been a relief.
